Learning to Hear My Inner Wisdom- a Personal Journey

In my career as a mechanical engineer I gained strong mental and analytical capability but was never introduced to the idea of listening to my inner wisdom. The first steppingstone on my awareness of inner wisdom occurred as a result of General Electric assigning me to be the residential project engineer for a nuclear plant they were building in Switzerland. I lived in Zürich and my schedule allowed me to monitor courses at the Jung Institute. Carl Jung was an analytical psychologist who focused on personal growth and self-realization. He emphasized the personal quest for wholeness and the intricate relationship between the conscious and unconscious rooms of the mind.

Although my wife and I enjoyed our life in Zürich we wanted to explore what we could do with our life other than just continue our professional careers. My father bought an old mannor house and its outbuildings in Clwyd, North Wales. He made available an outbuilding for us to live in and we thought we would stay there for a few months to decide what to do next. However, the building he chose to give us contained a number of 2-bedroom flats. We decided to use the flats to provide residential workshops which focused on how we can partner together to build a happy and healthy world for all. We finished up running residential workshops in our center for 6 years and only decided to return to the USA because my wife was pregnant with twins. In our center we had a special meditation room in which I meditated in the morning and evening for about 20 minutes. That experience as well as spending a lot of time walking and sitting quietly in nature enabled me not only to learn how to listen to what Jung called the unconscious mind and I call my inner wisdom but also to know when I was hearing it and when I was not. This capability has made such an important contribution to the choices I made in my life and the contributions I have been able to make. My inner wisdom has guided me in the creation of the structure and content of this website.
