Learning to be awake and the wisdom of knowing
when we are and when we are not

The state of being which is often referred to as “being awake” is one in which we are able to fully use our intellectual knowledge and skills, and concurrently our inner wisdom, to efficiently and effectively achieve our individual and shared purposes. When we are awake we are an artist achieving an outer purpose. We have both the opportunity to learn as spiritual beings as well as achieve our outer purpose. Humankind’s evolutionary journey is complex and long and we have come far. Humankind has developed many religions and many views of the state of being I refer to as being awake.

The traditional view of the Christian church is that when we open ourselves to our inner spiritual wisdom, i.e. being awake, we are able to hear a direct communication from an entity referred to as God. There is no conflict when the communications we receive are harmonious with each other. Unfortunately, when they are not it can lead to personal stress and conflict between individuals, groups and nations and result in conflict and war. An alternative and still a Christian view is that the message Jesus gave was a call for us to build heaven on earth, which can be interpreted as facilitating evolution. A widely accepted unifying evolutionary principle is love and thus when we have a conflict with each other it can be viewed as an opportunity not to seek who is right but what is right and in doing so learn how to love.
