The Magic Notes
Few can hear the magic notes and have danced with joy together.
Many have been drowned by the noise of fame and their desire for material gain.
The universe cries for what could be, the choices that went wrong.
It cries for those who pass this way and didn’t awake to sing their song.
Concurrently improving prosperity and organizational partnership
The historic focus of OD has been to help the organization improve the efficiency and effectiveness of delivering its products and services. Organizational development leaders are calling for us also to help build a better world. I believe that these can be done concurrently by implementing the methodology that OLC has developed and is described in this section of the website.
Most people recognize that the general state of our society is deteriorating some indicators are more inequality and a higher percentage of the population being impoverished and the deterioration in the well-being of our planet. However most people say I can’t see anything I can do about it. I would like to suggest that we heed the following comment by Margaret Mead.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens continue the world indeed, the only thing that ever has.
Addressing many of the challenges organizations face to improve prosperity involve the cooperation of a group of committed partners. The OLC research and methods shared in this website provide information on the ability of a group of committed partners to concurrently improve performance and their level of partnership. The experience with our research was that front line employees who worked as partners on process improvement projects took the knowledge they gained into activities in their daily lives and reported how they had achieved a positive outcome. The pathway to building a happier and healthier world is this learning to be better partners with each other.
Learning how to identify high-leverage change areas, develop the ability to establish a shared vision for change, develop the competencies and culture needed to change and developing the process to achieve change are important goals for any organizations seeking to change. Internal organizational functions or external consultants can help develop these competencies. However, it is important for organizations to avoid having external consultants lead change initiatives. It is by learning through experiences that organizations develop their internal competencies to improve prosperity and partnership.
A useful first step in any change effort is to undertake an assessment of where the organization stands in competencies important to the level of partnership in achieving change. The OLC Organizational Competencies Assessment enables an organization to identify the strengths and weaknesses of an organization in partnership competency areas important to achieving high performance.
