Our Leaders Will Not Realize Human Evolution - We Need an Alternative Pathway

Phase 1 of human evolution has the purpose of achieving physical material survival and the propagation of the species. Achieving Phase 1 provides the foundation for pursuing Phase 2. Phase 2 of human evolution is the realization of the evolutionary purpose of humankind, which includes in the near term the establishment of a happy and healthy human society and a healthy planet. Phase 2 of human evolution will not be realized by top-down leadership and management. As indicated in Tab 1, strongly held beliefs, often called a paradigm, do not change easily. Established societal beliefs cannot change quickly even when convincing evidence is provided by science and inspired individuals. We need to understand that people in leadership positions, such as business and politics, have gained their position by the support of the wealthy.

Business leaders are required to provide a continual flow of profits to the Board of Directors and shareholders. If they do not, they are replaced. Politicians require large amounts of financial support from the wealthy to get elected and reelected. If they do not implement policies that benefit the wealthy, they will lose their support. Our economic and political systems have been a primary factor in leaders continuing to embrace Phase 1 of human evolution. This has led to continually increasing inequality and our society becoming increasingly disenchanted with their situation and their leaders resulting in a slide down the path to insurrection. e.g., the January 6 attack on the Capital.

As a society we have a need and thus a purpose to address the slippery slide down the path to insurrection. W Edwards Deming, a respected management consultant defined the basics for achieving a purpose. First, there needs to be a clear understanding of what the purpose is and why achieving that purpose addresses an important need. Secondly, a plan is required as well as the associated process for achieving the plan’s purpose. Deming believed that without a plan and a process for achieving it you are “just messing about.” Before proceeding with implementation of a plan we needed an understanding of why we believe the plan we choose to implement will be successful. If the plan and process have been used successfully before, this often suffices. If it has not it is highly desirable to demonstrate in a pilot project that the plan and the process can be successfully implemented.

Throughout history human society has implemented many projects to improve the well-being of society with varying degrees of success. A historical perspective on these initiatives is provided in the following tab “Human Evolution – a Historical Perspective.” We need a path forward to facilitate human evolution. In developing the plan, we need to recognize that evolution takes place in elements (small partnerships) where the conditions are right to facilitate it. Information on this process and the path forward for human evolution is provided in Tab 4 (Phase 2 of Human Evolution-Transcendence).
